CHAPTER 1 - Kelly's Story 2002-2009
Nature’s Baby Basket Inc. was born out of a tremendous personal need to be at home for my children and provide for them with the safest environment possible for them to thrive and grow. My previous “life” as an accountant gave me satisfaction in the career world; however I always felt I was missing out on my true career as a mom.

When my first son was born in 2002, he did not come to us under the best of circumstances. Born via a rather hurried caesarean for IUGR (lack of growth within the womb) at eight weeks early and 2.5 lbs, he was tiny and fragile looking, hooked up to many wires and failing IVs. Although we knew we loved this little life right away, it was not the most joyful of times. I read much and insisted on reading his many status reports, but for the six weeks he grew in the NICU I felt that he was not mine, nor did I feel any real rights over my own child. I was only a visitor. We brought him home two weeks before his due date which was lucky, though he spent the next six weeks at home with us still hooked up to oxygen. I went through the motions of being a parent but didn’t feel in charge. Confidence shaken, I looked to doctors, nurses and mainstream books to guide my parenting.

It wasn’t until a few years later that I decided that there had to be a different way I could raise my children that would allow me to use that “gut” instinct that had been nagging at me all this time. So I slowly began researching the more “natural” side of things – and discovered the name for what my instinct was telling me: Attachment Parenting (in a nutshell, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, babywearing and responding immediately to the cries and needs of the child.) The commitment to cloth diapering followed soon after. I was especially determined to breastfeed the next child successfully, something I was unable to do after pumping for four weeks for my NICU baby, then told I had to stop because of medications I needed to take due to a condition I developed with my Lupus during my pregnancy. After a loss, a surgery later that year resulting from the loss, and then another loss the following year, we finally found ourselves truly pregnant again! I feel very strongly that acupuncture helped my body to regain the balance it needed for us to successfully conceive. I joined an LLL group and some of the ladies there opened my eyes to how wonderful and instinctive this concept of attachment parenting was. My husband could see how determined I was, and soon became fully supportive and on-board with these “new” ideas of parenting an infant and child. The concept of attachment parenting is actually not a new idea, but was generally always used before the idea of cribs and separate sleeping quarters became the norm. Many cultures around the world still use AP with great success today.

Our second boy was born in early 2008 under much better circumstances, and I am so thankful for my two beautiful boys and my wonderful husband. I will continue to learn and grow as a person, and am dedicated to being a WAHM to be there for my family. I am equally dedicated to providing you, as a customer, with tools to help you in your journey as a parent.

Having applied two very different styles of parenting, it is my hope that the products sold through Nature’s Baby Basket will serve you and your family well, no matter what type of parenting philosophies you find work best for you and your family.

Our goal is to provide you with the freedom and convenience through 24 hour online shopping to purchase safe, quality products for your whole family. Your satisfaction with our parenting products and service is of the utmost importance to us, and we sincerely thank you for your patronage.

Kelly unfortunately lost her battle with Lupus in late 2009. To honour her memory and the company she brought to life, Kelly's mother continued the business until the spring of 2011.

CHAPTER 2 - Sonja's Story 2011 - Today
A desire for learning and a passion for helping people took me through an academic pathway in neurosciences. A fork in the road in my life turned me away from neurosciences and turned me towards business management. I returned to school to complete graduate school in business administration. I developed skills but my passion for research and helping people remained and I just needed to wait for the right opportunity.

When my husband and I got married, we never expected that starting our family would be difficult. After many challenges, we were finally blessed with our son. I thought that instincts would be automatic and process would be instant. I was quickly reminded of things I could not control and breastfeeding was our first major struggle. With herbs, prescriptions, pumps, bottles, and daily doctor's appointments, I was reminded of my determination to succeed and my dedication to doing anything for my little babe. It further ignited my passions and dedication to provide the best for my family - providing healthy, natural, and eco-responsible products was key for us.

When our first son was born, I met a group of phenomenal moms (and their families) in our birth class. These women would grow to be close friends, supporters, and clients! One of these women knew Kelly's mom and she soon entered my life. After learning about what Kelly had started with Nature's Baby Basket and the terrible battle that she lost with Lupus, we felt that it would be a perfect fit for our family to take over the business. As business and families can do, we expanded and welcomed our second son in 2013.

Our desire is to provide our clients with products that are natural and eco-responsible while being convenient for all of our busy lives. I love to research new product lines and seek out relationships with suppliers that honor what our company strives for in our products. We hope to honour Kelly while continuing to improve and expand our offerings to our clients and their families.

Our hope is that we can provide you with the benefits of natural products that are good for you, your family, and the environment while being convenient and useful in the busy pace of your lives. We look forward to future endeavours and are excited for whatever the next chapter brings. From our family to yours, we thank you.
