About Us

Nature’s Baby Basket Inc. was born out of a tremendous personal need to be at home for my children and provide for them with the safest environment possible for them to thrive and grow.

My previous “life” as an accountant gave me satisfaction in the career world; however I always felt I was missing out on my true career as a mom.

When my first son was born in 2002, he did not come to us under the best of circumstances. Born via a rather hurried caesarean for IUGR (lack of growth within the womb) at eight weeks early and 2.5 lbs, he was tiny and fragile looking, hooked up to many wires and failing IVs. Although we knew we loved this little life right away, it was not the most joyful of times. I read much and insisted on reading his many status reports, but for the six weeks he grew in the NICU I felt that he was not mine, nor did I feel any real rights over my own child. I was only a visitor. We brought him home two weeks before his due date which was lucky, though he spent the next six weeks at home with us still hooked up to oxygen. I went through the motions of being a parent but didn’t feel in charge. Confidence shaken, I looked to doctors, nurses and mainstream books to guide my parenting.

It wasn’t until a few years later that I decided that there had to be a different way I could raise my children that would allow me to use that “gut” instinct that had been nagging at me all this time. So I slowly began researching the more “natural” side of things – and discovered the name for what my instinct was telling me: Attachment Parenting (in a nutshell,  breastfeeding, co-sleeping, babywearing and responding immediately to the cries and needs of the child.) The commitment to cloth diapering followed soon after. I was especially determined to breastfeed the next child successfully, something I was unable to do after pumping for four weeks for my NICU baby, then told I had to stop because of medications I needed to take due to a condition I developed with my Lupus during my pregnancy. After a loss, a surgery later that year resulting from the loss, and then another loss the following year, we finally found ourselves truly pregnant again! I feel very strongly that acupuncture helped my body to regain the balance it needed for us to successfully conceive. I joined an LLL group and some of the ladies there opened my eyes to how wonderful and instinctive this concept of attachment parenting was. My husband could see how determined I was, and soon became fully supportive and on-board with these “new” ideas of parenting an infant and child. The concept of attachment parenting is actually not a new idea, but was generally always used before the idea of cribs and separate sleeping quarters became the norm. Many cultures around the world still use AP with great success today.

Our second boy was born in early 2008 under much better circumstances, and I am so thankful for my two beautiful boys and my wonderful husband.
